Ben Weatherill

Playwright

Ben Weatherill is a writer for theatre, television and radio from the East Midlands. His plays include Chicken Dust at the Finborough Theatre and Curve; Jellyfish at the Bush Theatre and National Theatre; As Waters Rise for the Almeida Young Company; Frank and Percy at Theatre Royal Windsor, Theatre Royal Bath and The Other Palace; and Motorhome Marilyn at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, starring Michelle Collins. Jellyfish was shortlisted for the Writers’ Guild Award for Best Play. Frank and Percy, starring Ian McKellen and Roger Allam, was critically acclaimed and nominated in the Sky Arts Awards’ Times Breakthrough Artist category. 

Ben is currently developing original work for television and is one of the core writers on the hit BBC series Death in Paradise. He is adapting Shaun Greenhalgh’s A Forger’s Tale for the Octagon Theatre Bolton and is also under joint commission from Royal & Derngate, Oxford Playhouse and Stratford East.

Before becoming a writer, Ben worked in education and pastoral care and continues to work regularly with community theatre groups. He was one of the founding members of the Coalville Theatre Festival in his old hometown. He currently lives in Ealing, London, where he is increasingly obsessed with a fox living in his garden.
