Hans Kudlich
Lighting Designer
Hans is well known throughout Austria for his designs for theatre, opera, musicals, events and exhibitions. He also teaches at the „Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst“ („Max Reinhardt Seminar“). Hans has designed many stunning sets, especially for opera and musical. His designs can be seen in Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Fulda, Kiel, Linz, Dresden, etc.
For over ten years, he has been one of the main designers of the Volkstheater, thus shaping many outstanding productions. In 2004 Hans received the Karl Skraup Prize for Mother Courage and his design for Woyzeck received a Nestroy Award in 2013. His scenic designs for Around the World in 80 Days won the German Musical Prize for best set design in 2017 while in 2018 the same production was awarded the Austrian Musical Prize for the best Musical Production.
His most recent designs include: Fanny and Alexander (Opera Linz), La Bohème and Don Carlos (Opera Klosterneuburg), Idomineo (Schlosstheater Schönbrunn) and Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Opera House Sofia.
Additionally to various set designs for Austrian national TV productions, Hans also designs the stage for the yearly “Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn”, presented by the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra which gets broadcast to more than 60 nations with a live audience of over 100,000.
He has designed numerous productions for Vienna’s English Theatre, including amongst others, 84 Charing Cross Road, Corpse!, Bedroom Farce, Gaslight, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Doubt, A Picasso, 2 Pianos 4 Hands , God of Carnage, Other Desert Cities and The Lie.
