Hans Kudlich
Hans is well known throughout Austria for his designs for theatre, opera, musicals, events and exhibitions. He also teaches at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Max Reinhard Seminar). Hans has designed many stunning sets, among them the mega hits Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Miss Saigon, Tommy, Little Shop of Horrors, The Witches of Eastwick and Woyzeck.
His string of highly successful opera designs include Kurt Weill’s One Touch of Venus, Mozart’s Magical Flute, and Don Giovanni and Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss.
For the past ten years, Hans has been one of the main designers of the Volkstheater, thus shaping many outstanding productions. In 2004 Hans received the “Karl Skraup Price” for Mother Courage and his design for Liliom received a Nestroy Award nomination.
Hans is also well known for his fabulous exhibition designs e.g. for Centre George Pompidou (Paris), as well as for the Brahmsmuseum, which won “European Museum of the Year” in 1994. Most recently, he has designed the “Polardom Schönbrunn” for Vienna’s world famous Zoo, the exhibition “Wikinger!” at the Schallaburg, as well as a media installation at the Expo 2015 in Milan.
One of his most prestigious assignments was as Art Director and Artistic Director of the opening ceremony of the “Universiade 2006” in Innsbruck (Austria), the world’s second largest sports competition with 3,500 active participants.
Hans is also well known for designing the sets of several national TV shows and gala performances in Austria and Germany like the “Romy Gala”, “Goldene Europa” and “Austrian of the Year”.
2009-2011 saw him responsible for the set design of the “Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn” (Vienna), presented by the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra which was broadcast to more than 60 nations with a live audience of more than 100,000.
He has designed numerous productions for Vienna’s English Theatre, including 84 Charing Cross Road, Corpse!, Bedroom Farce, Gaslight, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Doubt, A Picasso, 2 Pianos 4 Hand and God of Carnage.
