There Goes the Bride
by Ray Cooney & John Chapman
I was thrilled to be asked by Vienna’s English Theatre to direct another play by my old friends Ray Cooney and John Chapman. Although written in the 1970s the play is still as light, frothy and humorous as it was then, after all, weddings are something most people experience, one way or another, some many times, during their lives!
It is said that many people have fantasies in their lifetime about something or another – and this is a delightful one! After all, a fantasy involving a vivacious twenty year old flapper of the 1920s, dreamt up by a forty something year old man, on the morning of his daughter’s wedding, can’t be all bad. Except for everyone else!
And that’s where Ray and John set their play. The hilarious events that arise from this situation are a joy, although you’ll leave the theatre tonight hoping it never happens to you! Oh – by the way, I forgot to say, the fantasy actually materialises in this case!
I hope you all enjoy your evening.
