Mark Payton
The Neighbour
Mark trained with the National Youth Theatre in London and at the University of Oxford.
He has played leading and character roles in classical and contemporary works, from Shakespeare and Shaw to Noël Coward and Joe Orton.
On screen he has appeared in BAFTA and Oscar-winning films with Merchant Ivory Productions (Howard’s End and Maurice) and was a series regular in ITV’s Emmerdale and The Bill, with further credits including A Question of Attribution, Journey’s End and The Unknown Soldier for the BBC, and Monte Carlo for CBS.
His extensive stage career spans productions in the West End, including Charley’s Aunt and Hay Fever; seasons at the Royal National Theatre, where he appeared in Absolute Hell, La Grande Magia and Mrs Warren’s Profession; and appearances at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Rep, Manchester Library Theatre and York Theatre Royal.
He has also appeared extensively in radio dramas for the BBC World Service. He last performed at Vienna’s English Theatre in 1997 in Sheridan’s The Rivals and is delighted to be back!
