Richard Baron
Regie
Richard is a graduate of St Andrews University, a former Scottish Arts Council Trainee Director at the Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, and Associate Director of the Perth, Dundee Rep, Pitlochry Festival and Nottingham Playhouse theatres. He has directed internationally and in London’s West End, was a recent Festival Season Director at Pitlochry and is co-founder and Director of Productions of the award-winning Firebrand Theatre Company.
Notable productions include: his Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) and Theatrical Management Association (TMA) award-winning production of Look Back in Anger starring David Tennant (Theatre Royal, Bath); CATS Award-winning productions of The Monarch of the Glen (Pitlochry Festival Theatre) and Iron (Firebrand); 3 UK tours of the international hit The 39 Steps; UK tours of The Ladykillers, Our Man in Havana, Travels With My Aunt, and Cat on A Hot Tin Roof (nominated for 6 Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards); Dear Brutus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, and The Hound of the Baskervilles (all Nottingham Playhouse); Bold Girls (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow); Travesties, The Price, Rookery Nook, and Laurel and Hardy (Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh); Chicago, Heritage, Scrooge! and TMA Award-winning and nominated productions of Man and Superman, Kind Hearts and Coronets, and Amadeus (all Pitlochry), and for Dundee Rep: All My Sons, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and the TMA Award-winning The Glass Menagerie.
For Vienna’s English Theatre Richard has directed 2:22 A Ghost Story, Murder by Misadventure and a tour of Macbeth. Most recently he has written and directed the critically acclaimed Nan Shepherd: Naked and Unashamed, which was revived for a sold-out season at Pitlochry Festival Theatre in 2025, prior to a national tour.
