THE ENGLISH LOVERS

THE ENGLISH LOVERS are thrilled to back at Vienna’s English Theatre! The players, from diverse theatrical backgrounds, were first brought together by the actress Barbara Spitz and the management of Theater Drachengasse to perform semi-staged readings of English-language literature. In 1998 they discovered improvised theatre and have not looked back. Initially also performing comedy sketches written by members of the group, they took part in numerous workshops, with Keith Johnstone, Chicago’s Second City and Randy Dixon amongst others, and soon became one of Austria’s leading impro groups. They are currently Austrian Theatre Sports Champions and perform all over Europe and North America but they are most at home in Austria, where they have all lived for many years. The group currently comprises 7 actors and 2 improvising musicians and laughter is a crucial element of each one’s life. THE ENGLISH LOVERS recently created the first fully improvised feature film to be made in Austria, Another One Opens, which has won international awards and is now available on DVD.
