Sue Mayes


Sue Mayes has a long and distinguished career as a Designer, with work stretching from Pantomime and Young Peoples Theatre to Film and Corporate Work.

After obtaining an Honors Degree from the Central School of Art and Design under Ralph Koltai she began her professional career  in traditional British repertory Theatre  in Ipswich,  then moved into devised theatre at The Belgrade Theatre in Education Company.

Since then Sue has worked especially with minority theatre groups such as  Nitro,  Greae, Talawa and Tamasha, and with companies producing new writing. As well as designing for established theatres such as the Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Derby Playhouse, she has designed  for prisons and for corporate entertainment.

Most recent designs include  The House of Bilquis Bibi  for Tamasha and  School for Scandal  for the Comedians Theatre Company at the Edinburgh Festival. Her last design for Vienna’s English Theatre was  A Capital Affair.
