David was educated in
Edinburgh, trained at
Birmingham, and has appeared in countless theatre productions, playing everything from Mercutio in
Romeo and Juliet to Poirot in
Alibi. Favourite roles include Norman Thayer in
On Golden Pond, Stanley in
Run For Your Wife, Teddy in
The Ghost Train and Joe Gargery in Dickens’s
Great Expectations. He played Robert in the world repertory premiere of
Don’t Dress For Dinner, and toured in the 30
th anniversary production of Joe Orton’s
What the Butler Saw playing Dr Rance. Other notable parts include Father Jack in
Dancing at Lughnasa, Canon Throbbing in
Habeas Corpus, and Sidney Bruhl in
Deathtrap.
For Vienna’s English Theatre he appeared in Intent to Murder, followed by a six-month tour with the Theatre Royal, Bath in Sheridan’s The Rivals.
Most recently he spent nearly a year in Scotland at the Festival Theatre in Pitlochry, playing Lukyn in Pinero’s The Magistrate and Seth Lord in The Philadelphia Story.
As a director David has staged numerous national tours, including Private Lives, Relatively Speaking, Rebecca, Veronica’s Room, Steaming, and the first stage adaptation of John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga.
Recently David devised and performed Here’s Richness!, a one-man show about Charles Dickens in which he plays over twenty of his characters from Fagin to Mrs Gamp! He lives in Eastbourne, and has a six-year old West Highland Terrier called Oliver (Twist).
