David Warwick

David trained as an actor at RADA and spent several seasons serving his apprenticeship in repertory theatre: at Crewe, Coventry, Leatherhead, Guildford, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Hornchurch and Birmingham. His many West End appearances include Confrontation at the Roundhouse, Baggage at the Vaudeville Theatre, and five farces for Ray Cooney: Italian Straw Hat and Out of Order, (Shaftesbury Theatre) It Runs in the Family and Funny Money (Playhouse Theatre) and Tom Dick & Harry (Duke of York’s).

His many television appearances include Z Cars, Ripping Yarns, The Glittering Prizes, Second City Firsts, Shelley, The Prince of Denmark, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Yes Minister, The Two of Us, Dear John, Only Fools and Horses, London’s Burning, On the Up, In Sickness and In Health, The Bill, Keeping Up Appearances, Rory Bremner, East Enders, Peak Practice, Reach For the Moon and All About Me. Dr Who fans tell him that he’s only one of 18 actors to have appeared in both the classic 70s series (with Tom Baker) and the new one (with David Tennant): David has tried to not let this go to his head! He also spent 2 fabulous years in New Zealand performing in several series and dramas for TVNZ and South Pacific Pictures.

As a director David has over 60 productions to his credit, both in the UK (for the Webber-Douglas Academy, the Guildford Conservatoire, the Mill Theatre at Sonning, Jill Freud’s Southwold summer theatre, and the commercial & touring sector) and overseas (the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey, and the British Theatre Playhouse in Singapore). Favourite productions include Out of Order, I’ll Be Back Before Midnight, The Long and the Short and the Tall, Alfie, Billy Liar and Outside Edge. His production of Private Lives for BTP/Singapore toured to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Bangkok, and was nominated as Best Production in Singapore in 2006. He also directs and produces Love Letters for his own company TLC Productions.

The one and only time David has been in Vienna before was some 10 years
ago, to present a promotional film for the Austrian Machinery, Plant & Steel Construction Industries. All he saw on that occasion was a taxi, a hotel, a studio, hotel and taxi again, and the departures lounge at the airport, so he’s very happy to be here now directing Donkeys’ Years, and hopes to see a little more of this beautiful city. (He’s also never seen the finished film, so if anyone has a copy?)
