Julian’s productions of Fiddler on the Roof and South Pacific are currently enjoying highly successful British national tours.

Julian has been Artistic Director of Sevenoaks Playhouse, The Global Search for New Musicals at The International Festival of Musical Theatre and Associate Director of the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch.

Most recently he directed the rarely seen Fiorello! at the Mill Studio Guildford and his production of The Musical of Musicals, played highly successful seasons at the King’s Head Theatre and Sound Theatres.

As Artistic Director of the Sevenoaks Playhouse he directed Vita & Virginia, The Railway Children, Wallflowering, Kiss of the Spiderwoman (the play), Wind in the Willows and The Turn of the Screw.

Other London productions include BlueBirds (Cochrane Theatre), the controversial In Your Hands (New End); 2 Boys in a Bed on a Cold Winter’s Night (Arts Theatre); the premiere of Let Him Have Justice (Cochrane Theatre); Oh Carol! (Covent Garden Festival); Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris and Of Mice and Men (King’s Head).

Internationally Julian directed the premiere of …And the Pursuit of Happiness (Off-Broadway, New York); Wuthering Heights (European tour) and Nostradamus (Australia).

Julian directed the national tours of Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel and Murdered to Death and his other regional productions include Turn of the Screw, Dames at Sea, The Sound of Music, The Fifteen Streets, Who’s Under Where?, The Underworld Project and four Christmas musicals all at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch; Me and my Girl (Eastbourne); The Oedipus Complex and Oedipus Rex (Bristol New Vic); and The Comedy of Errors (Worthing).

As a writer his work includes book and lyrics (with music by Richard John) for musical versions of The Wind in the Willows (Sevenoaks Playhouse) and The Railway Children (Sevenoaks Playhouse, published by Frenchs, original cast album on JAY records). He wrote book and lyrics for The Snow Queen (Theatre North); BlueBirds (Cochrane) narration for Broadway Hall of Fame: Cole Porter and Broadway Hall of Fame: Leonard Bernstein for BBC Radio 3.

His musical Oh Carol! won the Covent Garden Festival Search for a New Musical and he co-wrote Let Him Have Justice, (Covent Garden Festival, cast album on JAY records). His first play The Oedipus Complex, premiered at Bristol New Vic and his play B.Y.M (Beautiful Young Man) was presented as part of the Pride Encore Benefit Season in New York. With Richard John he is currently writing a new musical Comrade Rockstar, about the life of Dean Reed, which was recently workshopped by Arts Educational School.
