Sue Lefton
Born in London, Sue trained as a dancer, at The Royal Ballet School, then at the Ballet Rambert. She trained as an actress at The Central School of Speech and Drama and at L’École Jacques Lecoq in Paris.
Sue is a Theatre Director who is also recognised as one of the UK’s foremost Movement Directors, working all over the world in theatre, opera and film. Her directing credits include productions at The Royal National Theatre, The Royal Court, Glynedbourne, The Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as numerous productions at the Royal Shakespeare theatre for over 15 years.
Her film credits include Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett, Pride and Predudice with Gwyneth Paltrow and The Libertine with Johnny Depp.
She was nominated as Best Director in the Time Out Awards for her own theatre company’s production, The Visible Theatre Ensemble, of A Doll’s House.
Her many other directing credits include: Lady from the Sea (Bridewell), Blood Wedding,The Caucasian Chalk Circle and A Winter’s Tale (the Mercury Theatre Colchester), A Mad World My Masters (Shakespeare’s Globe), Welcome to Ramallah (The Arcola Theatre), Peter Handke’s play without text The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (The Guildhall School of Music and Drama), and with her own company, the critically acclaimed sell-out production of Who Do You Think You Are at The Southwark Playhouse.
Sue has previously worked in Vienna, choreographing Händel’s Alcina at the Staatsoper and directing Travels With My Aunt at Vienna’s English Theatre.
