Carmen is thrilled to be performing at Vienna’s English Theatre for the first time and is looking forward to exploring this beautiful city. Carmen has extensive stage experience in London and provincial repertory theatre, and is more than happy to have reached the age when she can play some great character parts! Her recent roles in London’s West End include Lady Markby, possibly Oscar Wilde’s silliest and funniest creation ever, in An Ideal Husband, the monstrous Mrs Warren in Mrs Warren’s Profession (Bernard Shaw), the very badly behaved Martha in Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and the equally badly behaved, scheming 12th century English queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, in The Lion in Winter. Last year she loved playing Wilde’s most famous dragon, Lady Bracknell, in an open air production of The Importance of Being Earnest. About her recent performance in the 1930s hit play Outward Bound at the tiny Finborough Theatre in London, one critic said that Carmen “could sneer for England as the dreadful Mrs Cliveden-Banks”. Two favourite Shakespearian parts that Carmen has played include Gertrude in Hamlet and Lady Macbeth. Carmen is delighted to be appearing in Lend Me a Tenor, particularly as she is a keen opera fan, her favourite opera being, of course, Bizet’s Carmen!
