Lothar was born in Wiesbaden 1969, and now lives and works in Vienna.

His first experience in the theatre was as a trainee for Der Troubadour, directed by Hans Neuenfels, at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin in 1995. In 1997 he went to study stage and costume design at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna, and graduated in 2002. During his studies he was Assistant  Stage Designer at the Akademie and the Burgtheater in Vienna and designed several productions – both set and costume – for the Ernst Busch Highschool in Berlin.

Since completing his studies he has been Assistant Costume Designer for several productions at the Stadttheater in Klagenfurt and Innsbruck and in Vienna at the Burgtheater, the Volksoper, the Theater an der Wien, Theater in der Josefstadt and Festspiele Reichenau.

Since 2006 he has worked as Assistant Stage Designer at the Theater in der Josefstadt und Kammerspiele.

Lothar has also been stage and costume designer at the Stadttheater Solothurn, at the Théâtre du Grütli in Geneva and at the Festival d’Avignon. Last year he designed set and costumes for the production Firlinger at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

This is Lothar’s 4th production at Vienna’s English Theatre, having previously designed the costumes for Doubt, A Picasso and Crimes of the Heart.
