Synopsis

What’s in a Name?Le Prénom in the original - is one of the most successful plays to emerge from France in the last decade. Rapturously received by critics and audiences alike, this comedy is an irresistible cross between Yasmina Reza’s and Alan Ayckbourn’s writing and has already been adapted into two films. Jeremy Sams’ translation of this comic masterpiece is set in London’s new popular hipster district Peckham.

Peter and his wife Elizabeth, both Francophile and liberal intellectuals, invite parents-to-be Anna and Vincent, as well as their oldest childhood friend Carl for dinner at their affluent flat. It all starts so well with the lovingly prepared Moroccan meal, the carefully selected wine and everyone cooing adoringly over the new baby scans. But when Vincent - not only Elizabeth’s brother but also Peter’s best friend - is asked what they will call their child, his answer sparks an argument that initiates a chain reaction of antagonisms hilariously spinning out of control, exposing decade-old resentments and well-kept secrets. Can their friendship survive tonight's skirmish? And how well did they ever really know each other? One thing’s for certain, their relationships are about to change forever!
