James trained at The Drama Centre London.

His West End Theatre credits include Javert in Les Misérables (Palace Theatre), Gus The Theatre Cat & Bustopher Jones in Cats (New London Theatre), all three Dads in Mamma Mia! (Prince Edward Theatre ), My Fair Lady (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane ), South Pacific at The Royal National Theatre (both directed by Sir Trevor Nunn), three years as Monsieur Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre), and Betty Blue Eyes at The Novello Theatre (directed by Sir Richard Eyre).

James is also proud to have taken part in the Les Misérables Tenth Anniversary Concert at The Royal Albert Hall, The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary Concert also at the Albert Hall and the Les Mis 21st at the O2!

Other Theatre credits include The Bed Before Yesterday at The Mill, Sonning, Haunted at The Theatre Royal, Windsor, The Lion in Winter with Brian Blessed at The Haymarket Theatre Basingstoke, The London Merchant at The Finborough, and The Bespoke Overcoat at The New End, Hampstead;
National Tours of Kiss Me, Kate (RSC Production with Kate O’Mara), South Pacific with Gemma Craven, The Pirates of Penzance with Paul Nicholas and Ivor Novello’s Kings Rhapsody.

James was in the original workshop production of Sir Trevor Nunn’s Gone With the Wind, and in other performances was invited to appear before Her Majesty The Queen at The Royal Variety Performance 1999, and My Fair Lady with Anthony Andrews and The John Wilson Orchestra as part of the 2012 BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall.

On Television, James has been seen in Five consecutive series of Judge John Deed (BBC) with Martin Shaw, Law and Order – UK, Holby City, Jonathan Creek, Dalziel and Pascoe, Heartbeat, Where the Heart is, Allo Allo!, Three Up Two Down, Shelley, Night Fever, West Country Tales, and Des O’Connor Tonight.

His Film credits include The Endless Game, with Albert Finney and Kristin Scott-Thomas, Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Cats – The Movie (as Bustopher Jones), and recently he can be heard on the Soundtrack of the new Les Misérables Movie with Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman.
