Curtis’s Father
Gary started his career after leaving
RADA touring with Sir John Gielgud and Dame Peggy Ashcroft in the Royal Shakespeare Company which played, as part of a grand European tour, in Vienna, then a war-torn city in 1955.
He has played in many West End plays, appeared twice at the Royal National Theatre, musicals
Irma La Douce, She Loves Me and
Grand Hotel and several seasons at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park where he played Benedick, Claudius, Oberon and Mercutio.
Gary’s films include playing the brother of Elizabeth Taylor in
Suddenly Last Summer, the best friend of Richard Burton in
Look Back in Anger, husband of Sophia Loren in the
Millionairess as well as major roles in
El Cid, Jason and the Argonauts, The Greatest Story Ever Told and the
Playboy of the Western World.
On TV he had a long running series, the
Rat Patrol, which is still being aired worldwide. Amongst his prolific television work in the UK, his latest was
Victoria and Albert and
Scarlett. He was a founder member of the London Shakespeare Group who toured to 55 countries over a period of 20 years. He has also played Shaw worldwide in the play
Dear Liar with his wife, Delena Kidd, and they have just finished performing it in Guildford. They have three children, one of which is the actress Emily Raymond, and seven grandchildren.
