Robert
Born and raised in Cornwall, Max trained as an actor at the Drama Centre London.

His first professional role was in New York playing Lord Alfred Douglas in an Off-Broadway biopic of Oscar Wilde called
Pictures of Oscar. Returning to London he played the roles of Steve and Les in Steven Berkoff’s
Decadence at the King’s Head, Islington followed by a year in the West End production of
The Mousetrap which still holds the Guinness World record as the longest running play in history.

What You’re Really Missing (Arcola),
Firing Line (Hampstead Theatre),
Chains (Trafalgar Studios),
I Met This Girl (Camden People’s Theatre),
Othello (Andrew Sketchley Theatre) and
Dog Sees God (Tristan Bates). Max has played several leading roles for Michael Friend Productions including Elyot in
Private Lives, Algernon in
The Importance of Being Earnest as well as
Intimate Exchanges, Mrs Warren’s Profession (with Keith Myers) and
Candida.
Film roles include
Twelfth Night (directed by Trevor Nunn),
Raptured, Hamlet, Nickers, Cold Call, Gotta Have Hope, Ant Apocalypse and
Cafe Italia.
From 2000 to 2004 Max was Artistic Director of Word of Mouth Productions, a theatre company dedicated to providing a platform for emerging artists. He has directed productions of
The Changeling, The Jamaican Heiress and
A Word in Your Ear, as well as playing Edgar in
King Lear. Max has also directed the short film
First Sight, a taut psychological thriller about a blind woman terrorised in her own home.
As a writer Max was part of the original team invited by the
BBC to develop the Radio 4 Extra sketch show
Newsjack. His radio sitcom
The Featherstone Retort has just been produced by Tin Can Podcast and is available on their website. His comedy drama
Best Before is currently in development with a major production company.
Max regularly performs stand up comedy around the UK and following the run of
Boeing Boeing he will return to London to begin shooting a new feature film,
Black Dog.
Max is delighted to be working at Vienna’s English Theatre and playing the role of Robert.
