Cecily Cardew

With both German and English heritage, Kristin feels it is fitting that she should be performing this most English of plays by the banks of the Danube. She first fell in love with acting at the age of eight, having donned a tartan beret and kilt to play Macbeth in a school play, and made her professional debut at the Sheffield Crucible, in Anna Mackmin’s critically acclaimed production of Iphigenia. She trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA), her most significant roles including Adriana in Comedy of Errors and Jocasta in Oedipus Tyrranos. She also created the role of Masha Chekhova, the sister of playwright Anton Chekhov, in the world premiere of Nina. Her fondest memories include her final year production of Pinter’s Party Time and Celebration, attended by Harold Pinter himself, and performing at the National Theatre as part of his memorial the following year.

Having graduated last year, Kristin has performed in everything from cabaret comedy Lost Soul Music at the Pleasance, to interactive show Confessions of a City and Ibsen’s polemic An Enemy of the People at the Sheffield Crucible, to the world premiere of the Dylan Thomas biography Tale of Two Dogs. Most recently she performed with Shared Experience as Charlotte Brontë in the critically acclaimed Brontë, due for a London transfer early next year. She is delighted to be playing Cecily after years of being typecast as overbearing wives and repressed spinsters!
