Michael trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 1964 to 1966. His first professional engagement was with John Neville’s company at the Nottingham Playhouse from 1966 to 1969 working with such actors as the late Hollywood veteran Robert Ryan and West End stars such as Michael Denison and Dulcie Grey.

Work in many repertory theatres in the United Kingdom followed, including Pitlochry, Perth, Manchester Library Theatre and the Belfast Lyric Theatre where he gave his Romeo in 1971 at the beginning of the recent troubles.
In London his work has included being a member of the Royal National Theatre from 1974 until 1977 playing at the Old Vic and the Lyttleton and Olivier Theatres. West End credits include Marty in Alan Bleasedales’s Are You Lonesome Tonight, a play about Elvis Presley at the Phoenix Theatre.

Film and television work includes Julius Caesar with Charlton Heston, Yes Minister, Between the Lines, Dr Who and Blakes Seven in which he played the regular character of Vila in the four seasons of that BBC series. Most recent T.V is as Graham Wingate in BBC TV’s Casualty.

Most recent theatre work includes Eddy in View from the Bridge, Jack in David Storey’s Horne, Antonio in The Merchant ofVenice (Worcester Swan Theatre), Dr Miranda in Death and the Maiden (Tour), Pantalone in A Servant of Two Masters (Wolsey Theatre), Juror Number 3 (the Lee J Cobb part) in Twelve Angry Men, Mr Frank in Diary of Anne Frank and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.
